Academic Advisor, Leeds School of Business
The Office of Undergraduate Student Services at the Leeds School of Business is accepting applications for an Academic Advisor. Our office is committed to supporting the education of the whole student and integrating student life with learning. In the process of generating and disseminating academic information and personalized requirements, we share knowledge through policies, practices, and programs for current students and their families, prospective students and their families, faculty, and other student affairs and academic affairs professionals campus wide. This position exists to educate the whole student through a developmental, student-focused approach. This includes individual, group, and electronic interactions that enhance academic success, promote personal and professional development, and foster a sense of community.
Advising students regarding academic requirements and options for completing them. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Must be knowledgeable of continually changing curricula, university rules and policies and how to apply to constantly different circumstances. Must be current on resources available and knowledgeable of current advising standards and protocol. Advising may be done in person, on the phone or via email. Must have a student-focused developmental approach to advising, and an understanding of how career goals and opportunities impact academic decisions. Works closely with Supervisor and other advising colleagues on mastering advising skills and approach.
Provide programming and structure to support the success of students in assigned caseload. This may include orientation, workshops, facilitation of group sessions, and individual meetings. This position may also design and implement academic support programming for the general Leeds undergraduate population.
Maintain student records to reflect current academic standing with regard to the undergraduate degree requirements. Must keep current on continually changing curriculum requirements and apply changes to student records for accuracy in record keeping. Includes evaluation of transfer and study abroad credit in consultation with a senior advisor, updating degree audits, performing senior audits and graduation checkout/confirmation for students in assigned caseload.
Support Undergraduate office. Every position in the Undergraduate office will be called upon to help with various tasks such as orientation, graduation confirmation, commencement ceremony, probation and suspension, advising non-business students, preparing and presenting oral presentations, and acting as an outreach resource to the rest of the campus or community.
Teach BADM 1250 (First year seminar class) offered in the fall semester. Includes preparation, teaching, grading, and office hours.

What We Require
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Experience in academic advising, student career counseling or providing student support within a college or university setting.
What You'll Need
- Demonstrated effectiveness in strong written and oral communications, collaboration and problem solving
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Willingness to work in an environment which may demand some flexibility or evening work
What We'd Like
- Master's Degree in counseling, higher education, business, or a related field
- Willingness and skill in public speaking
- Three years of academic advising experience
- Experience in career counseling
- Experience with advising technology/programs (DARS, Campus Solutions/ PeopleSoft, TES)
