Support CEC and USC educational and research activities, maintain shop facilities and equipment and enhance professional skills. Design, fabricate and make repairs or modifications to research equipment and teaching apparatus including complex mechanical and electromechanical devices. Assist and instruct lower level technicians and students involved in a fabrication of research and educational projects. Perform journey-level engineering work in machining and fabrication. Duties are 1) Prepare drawings, plans and specifications for manufacturing projects, engineering systems, technical equipment and related components. Design, fabricate, install, maintain and repair a wide variety of complex engineering and testing equipment of mechanical and electromechanical nature.40%; 2) Instruct and oversee student projects, including capstone design projects, involving the operation of machine tools, manufacturing processes and interpretation of CAD drawings and/or schematics. Advise faculty and students on the design of shop related projects and courses.40%; 3) Travel to various locations on campus, to preform repairs on equipment that cannot be brought to the fabrication shop. Procure necessary materials and or tools to complete the assigned project. Maintain equipment and facility. Preform related duties as required.15% and 4) Instruct and guide students and lower-level technicians who are using shop equipment.5%.
High school diploma and 12 years professional experience experience in a specialized trades area; or in diversified building or vehicle maintenance, or construction activity.
Two year Associate's Degree with three years or more experience in 1) manufacturing processes, engineering theories, design and applications of technical fabrication and operations; 2) Computer skills and advanced software such as: AutoCAD, smartcam, word, Microsoft office/Outlook and networking and 3) machine tool operations and CNC programming.
