The Open Studies Division of Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for multiple part-time faculty positions with a yearly renewable contract in a non-tenure institution to teach the following courses as part of the Master of Art curriculum at MICA:

•    Foundations of Design Leadership
•    Collaboration
•    Prototyping
•    Creativity and Innovation
•    Sustainability and Social Responsiveness
•    Cultural Relevance and Awareness
•    Forecasting and Realization
•    Competitive Advantage I
•    Competitive Advantage II

Program Summary:
The Master of Art/Master of Business Administration in Design Leadership program offers two degrees, a MA from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and a MBA from Johns Hopkins University’s (JHU) Carey Business School. This 18-month program is focused on building the management and innovation capacity of designers, engineers, and business people who wish to be a creative force working in the world of business.  The program assists students gain a competitive advantage as leaders through a variety of means with a particular focus on design thinking.

The primary mission of this program will be to develop individuals prepared to engage organizations in the kinds of creative processes that result in innovation solutions to real world challenges. While there will be some content dealing with visualization and prototyping, the primary focus of the program will be on problem identification, targeting objectives and audiences, immersion into research, implementation of design thinking and strategy, and an overall collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach problem solving.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•    Working knowledge of the human-centered design approach and application
•    Understanding of SWOT business analysis
•    Ability to produce prototypes
•    Design knowledge to assist students in visualizing various concepts
•    Experience in generating user personas
•    Ability to gather user research and produce ethnographic research
•    Understands the nexus between design strategy and business practices

¥    Master’s degree
¥    Proven experience in college level teaching or equivalent professional experience
¥    Demonstrated excellence in creative work
¥    Candidate must successfully complete a full background check
Additional Information:
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications and based on MICA’s part-time scale.
