Cybersecurity – Management and Policy

Location: Online, as well as various locations in DC, MD, VA                                                                                                  

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach hybrid* courses for our undergraduate Cybersecurity Management and Policy program. This fast-paced program uses a pervasive cybersecurity approach to prepare graduates for leadership roles managing risk and protecting information assets and technologies in businesses, industries, and government organizations. *Hybrid courses meet face to face one night a week for 8 weeks in addition to completing learning activities in our online learning environment.

Required Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Information Assurance, Information Technology Management, or a related field
  • Master’s degree required from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Prior teaching or training experience working with adult learners
  • Experience working in virtual teams and/or experience teaching in virtual (online) environments.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D or terminal degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Information Assurance, Information Technology Management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • 8 to 10 years of professional experience in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Information Assurance, Information Technology Management, or a related field
  • Experience teaching adult learners
  • Teaching or training experience in online teaching environments
  • Current CAP, CISSP, CISA, CISM, CIPP/US, CIPP/G, or CIPT certifications
  • Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek (Virginia Beach, VA)
  • UMUC at Quantico, VA
  • Southern Maryland Higher Education Center (California, MD)

The Adjunct Faculty Role at UMUC

  • Actively engage students though frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
