Job Description Summary:

The Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center (GFLEC) is one of the leading research centers on financial literacy and financial capability. GFLEC produces high quality research to illustrate the extent of financial illiteracy through the world and to study its consequences on the individual and society. Housed within the School of Business at The George Washington University (GW) in Washington, D.C., GFLEC is reflective of expertise not only in financial literacy, but also in the translational power of academic research to inform change on the macro level, including influencing policy and changing practitioner practices. The Center has numerous partnerships and collaborations with academic, public sector, and private sector institutions around the world. Professor Annamaria Lusardi, world-renowned researcher and a founder of the field of financial literacy, established GFLEC in 2011 and currently serves as its Academic Director. GFLEC research has been published in journals such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Economic Literature, and Journal of Monetary Economics.

This position reports to the Center Specialist. This position does not have any direct reports but may lead project teams, provide coaching and delegation of work to other employees.

The primary focus for this position is applying econometric analyses to consumer financial data to study financial capability and financial literacy in the U.S. and globally.

The key responsibilities include:

Collecting and analyzing data from the U.S. and abroad.

Assists in writing reports, policy briefs, and presentations geared for academic, government, and private institutions.

Contributes to developing research-based teaching materials for financial education programs.

Compiles results and prepares technical reports and documentation of outcomes, as well as prepares literature reviews.

Assists in evaluating research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives and contributes to the research projects currently in progress.

Assists in completing data collection and IRB forms.

Identifies fundraising opportunities, drafts grant and project service agreement proposals and submits proposals for government and private institution grant funding opportunities.

Works with project teams to explain facts, policies, and practices related to the field of financial literacy and exchanges information with other GFLEC researchers and collaborators.

Attends and presents, as necessary, at Center’s events, such as the Financial Literacy Seminar Series and Public Policy Luncheons.

Provides key statistics and findings of GFLEC research to use on social media and in conference summaries.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must obtain the required education and provide certification of the completed degree by June 15. 2017

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in economics or related field preferred, but not required.

Experience in economics and micro-econometrics/regression analysis.

Experience using statistical software, including excellent knowledge of STATA.
Previous relevant research experience.

Exceptional writing skills.

Attention to detail.

Excellent listening skills and ability to follow instructions.

Ability to prioritize and multitask.

Ability to work independently and on a team.
Excellent critical thinking skills.

Excellent problem-solving skills.

Willingness to work weekends or beyond normal working hours to meet key deadlines.
