The Department of Astrophysical Sciences, Princeton University, anticipates offering a number of postdoctoral or more senior research positions in theory, observation and instrumentation, including (but not limited to): the Lyman Spitzer, Jr. postdoctoral fellowship in Astrophysics; the Joint Postdoctoral Fellowship with Carnegie Observatories and Princeton University; cosmology including WFIRST; plasma astrophysics, plasma theory and simulation, and theory of turbulence and transport in space and astrophysical plasmas; and software development, including Subaru PFS and LSST. For all of our positions, we encourage applications from those working in all areas of astronomy and related fields.
Applicants may work with the Department's distinguished faculty and research staff. For a full list of department members and activities, see http://www.princeton.edu/astro. There are also strong research groups with interests in astrophysics at the Princeton Plasma Physics Lab and in the Physics, Geosciences, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Departments, and at the nearby Institute for Advanced Study. Appointments are for one year, renewable annually based on satisfactory performance, for a total of up to three years. The expected start date is September 1, 2017, though earlier starting dates may be negotiated.
Applicants with an interest in mentoring underrepresented minorities in science and mathematics may wish to be involved in the Department's post baccalaureate program (link). Such applicants may request that up to 20% of their time be devoted to mentoring students in this program. Applicants to any postdoctoral position in the Department are eligible, and should indicate their interest in the application itself.
