The Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver is an interdisciplinary professional school of international studies that prepares students for careers in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Our program provides students with the knowledge, skills and networks to design policies, implement programs, and realize outcomes that enhance human capabilities around the world.

Position Summary

The Josef Korbel School of International Studies is seeking to fill a One-year Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor with the possibility for renewal, to teach courses in international studies. Courses will include introductory international studies courses, and courses focusing on the Middle East and Asia.

The Visiting Teaching Professor will teach six classes during the academic year. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in international studies and possess demonstrable regional expertise in the Middle East and Asia. The appointment is for the academic year, with a possibility for renewal.

Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor will also serve as mentor/advisor for undergraduate research projects as appropriate. Will provide support for additional departmental projects as needed. Successful candidates can demonstrate an enthusiasm for teaching and flexibility in adapting teaching materials to changing issues in international studies.

Position begins September 1, 2017.

Essential Functions

  • Teach six classes during the academic year.
  • Serve as mentor/advisor for undergraduate research projects as appropriate.
  • Provide support for additional departmental projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Successful candidates should have research and teaching interests in the areas specified and are able to teach to our undergraduates.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in International Studies/Relations, Political Science, Development Studies, Areas Studies, Human Geography or related field.
  • ABD will be considered, but must complete all requirements for graduation by hire date.
  • Minimum one year full-time experience, preferably at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated success in teaching undergraduate courses.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years' experience teaching undergraduate students.
  • Experience teaching on-line or hybrid courses.

Work Schedule

Dependent on class schedule and office hours.
