Job Description Summary

This position is for the overnight custodial maintenance of assigned campus building.

Major Duties

• Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms/locker rooms and restocking supplies
• Remove trash from assigned areas daily
• Remove recycling from assigned areas weekly or as needed
• Reporting all mechanical needs to supervisor
• Clean restrooms
• Clean offices
• Clean common areas
• Clean exterior exits (doorways and matting)
• Wash windows
• Vacuuming and dust mopping floors
• Shampooing carpets and stripping and waxing tile floors
• Operating various floor cleaning equipment
• Moving furniture
• Setting up and breaking down campus events
• Unload and inventory cleaning supplies
• Performing related duties

Knowledge Required by the Position

• Knowledge of tools, equipment methodology of building custodial maintenance
• Knowledge of department policies and procedures
• Skills in the analysis and use of assigned tools
• Skill in oral and written communication
• Skill in basic computer operation

Supervisory Controls

The supervisor of custodial services assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results

Guidelines

Guidelines include department policies. These guidelines are clear and specific.

Complexity/Scope of Work

• The work consists of related custodial duties. The performance of custodial duties in the presence of other college staff and general public contribute to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of the job is to ensure cleanliness of campus buildings

Contacts

• Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, students, and members of the general public.

Physical Demands

• The work is typically performed while intermittently walking, standing, stooping, bending, or crouching
• The employee occasionally lifts moderate heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes the shades of color and utilizes the sense of smell
• The work is typically performed indoors
• The employee might be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, noise, irritating chemicals and machinery with moving parts
• The work requires the use of protective equipment (masks, gloves, goggles etc)

Minimum Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position two years
• Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
