Job Description Summary:

GW Benefits is housed within The Finance Division and supports faculty and staff with navigating the benefits offered by the university as well as the enrollment processes, applications and self-service systems. The department oversees the administration of GW's comprehensive benefits package which includes: health and welfare plans, life insurance and disability insurance, retirement and tuition programs. The department also provides oversight of the university's paid and unpaid leave of absence programs.

Reporting to the Director, Benefits under limited supervision, the Communications Specialist, Benefits manages, creates and disseminates all benefits information to the university, including web, intranet, and other digital and print resources for GW Benefits.

Key responsibilities include managing communications projects that are both department specific and University wide, including developing project charters; communicating to all constituents; developing materials and leading meetings to ensure the successful progress and completion of both long and short term benefits communication projects. The communications developed will inform stakeholders and enhance ease of benefits decision-making through accessible, reliable, and actionable information. This position will also serve as the project lead for Open Enrollment activities on a yearly basis.

Working closely with University External Relations and Marketing and Creative Services, the Specialist will lead a comprehensive digital communications and web strategy, including identifying and developing content to communicate and enhance engagement with target audiences, and reinforce benefits activities and initiatives.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

- Progressive HR or Benefits Communications experience
- Demonstrated project analytic experience (conducting research, data collection and analysis), project leadership experience with an emphasis on communication best practices and technologies as well as meeting preparation and facilitation experience.
- Ability to convert data into comprehensive and concise employee written communications (print and digital), newsletters, and presentations for use by leadership.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and meet deliverables on time.
Excellent judgment, decision-making, and analytical skills; strong planning and execution skills.
- Superior oral and written communication and customer service skills and the ability to independently follow up as required.
- Experience with Drupal, SharePoint, SkillPort LMS is strongly preferred.
- Two years of demonstrated professional experience managing targeted communications initiatives within a large organization is highly preferred.
