Position Summary: Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for University Communications, the Associate Vice Chancellor leads the central communications staff and serves as the principal advisor on all communications-related matters and plans. The Associate Vice Chancellor implements and directs all aspects of communications strategy and messaging to build awareness, support and resources for the University, and to support and enhance the University's reputation as a world-class public research university. In doing so, the Associate Vice Chancellor works closely with the Vice Chancellor, senior campus leaders, trustees, faculty, staff, alumni, students and communications professionals across the entire University community. In addition to the core communications staff, the Associate Vice Chancellor is also responsible for the department's HR, Finance, IT and administrative support functions.
Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is strongly preferred.
Qualification and Experience: Ten to fifteen years' experience envisioning, developing, and implementing successful and comprehensive public relations and communications programs across large, complex enterprises with multiple constituencies and a wide variety of audiences. Superior strategic skills with a strong grasp of professional best practices and a holistic understanding of all aspects of communications, positioning, and messaging. Demonstrated broad experience in communications planning, media relations and crisis management as well as successful experience dealing with local and state media. Demonstrated experience working in an environment with multiple internal clients and external constituents. Ability to build relationships and collaborate across the institution, serving as a resource to others and obtaining their input. Demonstrated experience as a leader and manager, able to work effectively with, delegate to and provide direction and leadership for a team under stringent deadline requirements. Demonstrated experienced as a seasoned counselor to senior leaders, peers and subordinates.
