Posting Summary:
A postdoctoral research position is available in the Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) at the University of Virginia, School of Medicine. The primary focus of the lab is to elucidate mechanisms that regulate the pathogenesis of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). Our long term goal is to develop novel therapeutic approaches to treat PAD, which is a major cause of morbidity and mortality; PAD is the leading cause of amputation in people age 50 and older, and accounts for up to 90 percent of amputations overall.

Recent studies in our lab have examined the role of alternatively-spliced isoforms of growth factors, micro-RNA control of gene expression, and a novel role for an interleukin receptor.

Although outstanding candidates in all areas of biomedical science will be considered, special consideration will be given to individuals with strong experience/expertise in: 1) small animal surgery including tail vein injections; 2) quantitative PCR, RNA isolation, protein isolation and analysis; and 3) working with transgenic and knockout mouse models.

Applicants must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree by the start date, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Eligibility for NIH post-doctoral fellowship funding is important, but not mandatory.
