The University of Delaware invites applications and nominations for a temporary assistant professor in American Politics in the Department of Political Science and International Relations (http://www.poscir.udel.edu/). Successful candidates should have a scholarly specialization in the field of American Politics. The effective start date is September 1, 2017. Position is for one year, renewable for a total of three years, subject to satisfactory performance, departmental needs and availability of funding.

The Department of Political Science and International Relations (POSCIR) within the College of Arts and Sciences has 26 full-time and jointly appointed faculty, nearly 800 undergraduate majors and minors and 45 graduate (mostly doctoral) students. The Department offers two undergraduate majors (Political Science and International Relations) and two undergraduate minors (Political Science and Political Communication) as well as a Ph.D. in Political Science. The department faculty covers four subfields of political science: American politics (including public law and U.S. foreign policy), comparative politics, international relations and political theory. The faculty is a methodologically diverse and collegial group of research-intensive and nationally and internationally known scholars.They are outstanding teachers, mentors, advisers and public servants.

The Department seeks a temporary assistant professor with a record of strong teaching in American politics. Candidates will contribute to excellence in our teaching mission, teaching up to four courses each semester. Evidence of teaching experience is required, with the ability to teach a wide range of courses in American politics. We have particular needs for teaching the presidency and courts, as well as introduction to American politics. The ability to teach in areas of politics, groups, and identities would also be welcome. Opportunity to develop a “topics” course is likely.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in hand by September 1, 2017 expected. Applicants who are ABD will be considered, but must have a granted Ph.D. upon arrival. Applicants must be able to demonstrate skills necessary for excellence in teaching.
