Job Description
A post-doctoral position in the Nuclear Engineering Program in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of South Carolina with expertise in materials preparation and thermochemical and thermophysical analysis together with CALPHAD assessments. The Fellow will perform primarily experimental research including preparation of nuclear fuel and cladding samples for phase equilibria studies and compatibility experiments. The Fellow will also perform thermochemical and thermophysical measurements, such as TGA/DSC, XRD, and microanalysis. Analysis of results together with literature data to perform CALPHAD assessment of the phase systems. It is expected that facilities and instruments at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory will be utilized in the research in addition to those available at the University of South Carolina. Duties include: 1) Prepare uranium samples for analysis 40% 2) Perform experimental measurements of thermochemical/thermophysical properties of systems of interest. 30% 3) Manage research laboratory activity and assist graduate students.10% 4) Prepare manuscripts for presentation and publication in professional journal and research reports 10% 5) Prepare and assist in the preparation of research proposals. 5% and 6) Conduct literature searches for technical information. 5%


Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or other closely related discipline with experience in computational materials modeling.
