Responsibilities of this position include the study of a range of materials from lightweight alloys, shape memory alloys, self-healing metals, to radiation effects on materials using alloy design techniques.  Highly motivated individuals are sought in the development of advanced light metals, specifically aluminum and magnesium alloys, through the use of thermodynamic and kinetic database development and/or transmission electron microscopy. Additionally, the candidate is expected to give conference talks, prepare manuscripts and reports, participate in meetings, and play a major role in the preparation of grants.  They are also expected to assist in managing and supervising both graduate and undergraduate students.

Advertised Salary:

$63,000 - $74,000 - Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering with preferred prior experience in thermodynamic and kinetic database development and assessment and/or transmission electron microscopy.  In addition, it is expected that the research scientist will be highly motivated and can work independently, as well as part of highly diverse research group.  The candidate should have a solid publication history and strong verbal and written communications skills in English.
