Assistant/Associate Food Safety Professor
Summary of Duties:
The successful candidate will: Develop an impactful and well-funded, industry-relevant integrated extension and research program focusing on food safety with an emphasis on raw agricultural products and minimally processed foods produced in the Pacific Northwest. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with scientists across the university and region. S/he must be able to integrate extension and research activities to meet the needs of the diverse regional food industry.
Lead statewide extension efforts in food safety. Identify needs and develop extension programs and scholarly publications. Measure, document and report outcomes and impacts of these programs.
Develop and disseminate extension and research scholarship in appropriate professional fora.
Develop collaborative relationships with state and federal agencies and other organizations that develop or influence food safety policies.
Extend the reach of WSU Extension by integrating distance technology into program delivery through web pages, electronic mailing, apps, multimedia technology and other emerging technologies.
Serve as an advisor or mentor for both graduate and undergraduate students, providing them with research and internship opportunities.
Build capacity to sustain and grow programs through constituent empowerment and/or leadership development.
Seek opportunities to serve on state, regional and national committees to promote food safety.
Interact with the new WSU Food Systems Program as that initiative develops.
REQUIRED for both the Assistant and Associate Professor level:
(Successful Associate Professor candidates must currently have Associate Professor status)
• Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Microbiology, or a related field at the time of hire.
• Strong academic training or industry experience in food safety.
