The Department of Information Technology invites nominations and applications for the position of limited-term Instructor of Information Technology.

Georgia Southern is located in Statesboro, Georgia, a classic community of approximately 30,000 residents just an hour from historic Savannah. It is recognized for providing enriching opportunities for people of all ages while benefitting the region and state.

Within this setting, the Department of Information Technology (IT) offers undergraduate and graduate courses in support of nearly 500 students. Undergraduate information technology courses are offered in the areas of IT infrastructure, web and mobile technologies, programming and application development, database design and development, systems implementation, network and data center management, cybersecurity, information management and data science. The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) degree is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. The College currently offers a Master of Science in Applied Engineering (MSAE) degree with a concentration in Information Technology. Active research areas in the department include digital forensics, cyber and data security, data science, predictive analytics, cloud computing, network performance, disruptions in supply chain information, and e-commerce.

The department mission is consistent with the college and university missions in that it bridges theory with practice, extends the learning environment beyond the classroom, and offers a student-centered environment enhanced by technology and experience with private and public partnerships.

Position Description. Reporting to the chair of the Department of Information Technology, the limited-term lecturer position requires an ability to develop and teach core undergraduate courses which include a thorough understanding of the IT infrastructure, fundamental knowledge and skills in server, network system administration and management, and introductory concepts in operating systems, web technologies, relational databases, and cybersecurity; assist in program assessment and execution of a continuous improvement plan; participate in service on various committees; participate in professional activities and organizations; and actively contribute to the achievement of the department's mission as a member of the department's professional team. All limited-term positions are non-tenure track, academic (9/10 month) year appointments. Appointments are for one year only, although there is the possibility of reappointment should funding permit and based upon satisfactory performance. (All reappointments are made on a one year basis.) The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned master's degree in information technology, information systems, computer science, or a closely related field by July 1, 2017, with at least 18 graduate semester hours in information technology
  • Ability to develop and teach core undergraduate courses which provide a thorough understanding of the IT infrastructure, fundamental knowledge and skills in server, network system administration and management, and introductory concepts in operating systems, web technologies, relational databases, and cybersecurity
  • Effective English communication skills (oral and written)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Earned doctorate degree (or ABD) in information technology, information systems, computer science or a closely related field
  • Previous full-time teaching experience
  • Relevant industry experience
  • Experience with ABET accreditation and/or continuous quality improvement
