Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Director of Human Resources as a practitioner and working manager  is directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of HR services at The Sage College. The duties and responsibilities of this 12 month full time position are  and includes: oversight of the day-to-day HR functions, benefits administration, recruitment, employee training and development, annual performance evaluations, compliance, employee relations and the employee handbook.  The Director of HR for The Sage Colleges also serves as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration:

  • Oversee all personnel management functions from recruiting, hiring, training, intervention and departure including employee communications
  • Administer, lead, organize and coordinate all aspects of employee benefit programs to retain and recruit well qualified personnel
  • Annually review and make recommendations to the senior leadership (Cabinet) for improvement of the College's policies, procedures and HR practices
  • Maintain Employee Handbook to communicate changes in personnel policies and procedures and ensures that proper institutional compliance is followed·      Work directly with the Provost to ensure  congruence with the Faculty Handbook
  • Assists senior leadership (Cabinet) in the annual review, preparation and administration of Sage's wage and salary program.  Ensures internal equity within all classifications
  • Consults with legal counsel as appropriate, or as directed by the VPF/T, on personnel matters
  • Works directly with department managers to assist in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters
  • Develop, plan and coordinate employee development programs in a cost-efficient manner to meet the needs of employees
  • Develops and maintains a human resource information system (HRIS) that meets the Colleges' personnel information needs
  • Work closely with the Title IX Director and serve as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator.  Ensure the prompt and equitable response to complaints made by and/or involving employees
  • Serve on College-wide committees such as Crisis Task Force, BETA, Retirement and Title IX and SART
  • Create and monitor the budget for the Office of Human Resources
  • Assist with the development of reports for the Board of Trustees
  • Support the VPF/T through special projects in Strategic Plan development
  • Serve as the College's liaison with Rose & Kiernan (a private market place) for assistance with benefits programs through their RKXChange program
  • Partner with the VP for Administration and Planning and the Director of Facilities in collective bargaining negotiations
  • Supervise the staff in the Human Resources (2 Assistant Directors, and the HR coordinator)
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Training and Compliance:

  • Establish an in-house employee training system that addresses employee training needs including needs assessment, new employee orientation (onboarding), management development, Compliance officer training
  • Oversight and application of the College's Discrimination/Harassment policy and responsibility for Compliance Officer Training.  Serve as a Compliance Officer responsible for receiving complaints and for assisting in the resolution of those complaints
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation to ensure compliance
  • Maintain responsibility for and advise the VP/T on policy matters and compliance with federal and state legislation pertaining to all personnel matters such as:
  • ERISA (Employment Retirement Income Security Act of 1974)
  • EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity)
  • ADA (Americans with Disability Act)
  • ADAAA (ADA Amendments Act of 2008)
  • ADEA (Age Discrimination in Employment Act)

  • WTPA (Wage Theft Protection Act)
  • NLRB (National Labor Relations Board)

  • FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) Wage and hour regulations
  • Work closely with the Safety Committee and ensure the Colleges have written safety policies, plans and programs that meet the regulatory compliance requirements and investigate accidents and injury reports with regard to Worker's Compensation claims.  Monitor the tracking of OSHA-required data

 


Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters preferred. Five (5) years' experience working in education preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Must demonstrate excellent management and leadership qualities and the ability to deal with a wide range of constituencies in a discreet, tactful and collegial manner
  • Ability to lead and develop Human Resources staff members
  • Knowledge of all Human Resources functions including employment practices, employment and workplace laws, compensation, benefits, employee relations, policy development , and performance development and review process
  • Knowledge of recruiting software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, email and web-based applications
