Job Description:

Maintains plants and landscape areas in the Vivarium and exterior gardens. Waters and maintains greenhouse plants prior to installation in Vivarium and plant sale.

Cleans and maintains Vivarium facilities which includes but is not limited to sweeping, washing exhibit windows, wiping down benches and exhibit panels. Maintains the landscaping and components within the water feature.

Staffs exhibit while open to the public, answers questions on both butterflies and plants, gives tours as time permits, monitors for and prevents inappropriate conduct in the exhibit for safety and USDA containment, and advises public on exhibit maintenance and desirable plants for home butterfly gardening.

May participate in butterfly releases, assist with the preparation of butterfly pupae shipments and recordkeeping, assist with rearing case and laboratory cleaning and organization, work at the plant sale and large signature events at the museum.

Other duties may be assigned.

Advertised Salary:

$10.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

2 years of college education.

This position requires availability on weekends.

Person holding this position must be able to perform heavy physical labor, lifting and long hours in the heat and cold.
