Bergen Community College has an opportunity for a Financial Aid Specialist to coordinate and administer all facets of one or more aid programs and/or major office operations effectively and efficiently with a strong customer service orientation and in compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to providing customer service support; monitoring student enrollment and communicating status notification; coordinating student appeals review and Title IV funds review, processing and return; counseling students and parents on Financial Aid opportunities and processes;  preparing forms, consumer information disclosures and student communications; educating students on the information required for completing Financial Aid applications as required by Federal and State Financial Aid websites; reviewing and reconciling reports on the status of the assigned applications; importing and exporting applicant and disbursement rosters and submitting changes; providing technical and administrative support in the fund delivery process; coordinating and managing program funds and their reconciliation programs or operations on a monthly and year-end basis; importing and exporting ISIR’s and correcting transactions, resolving processing and transmission errors and running auto packaging; coordinating unemployment tuition waiver program including certification of student eligibility for financial aid (FAFSA/Unemployment eligibility) and documentation maintenance; conducting annual financial set-up process and additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required and 3 or more years of progressively responsible financial aid experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of Financial Aid state and federal laws;
  • Knowledge of regulations of agencies governing the student aid program assigned to the position
  • Must possess a strong level of organizational,  interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Datatel preferred
  • Exhibits strong skills in building customer and student focus, building relationships and planning
  • Must be driven to provide excellent customer service with ability to handle inquiries of diverse and multicultural students, staff, faculty and visitors with sensitivity and diplomacy
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment doing multiple tasks and projects while attending to the immediate needs of members of the campus community and demonstrates understanding of the community college mission and practices an open door policy
  • Detail oriented self-starter, ability to work independently with little to no supervision and as a team in a collaborative manner
  • Must have ability to exercise good judgment, as well as, ability to understand and follow established protocols
