Duties: With limited supervision, manage department's sponsored research pre-award and post award activities for a large, diverse, and highly complex portfolio of grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, gifts, endowments, and sponsored research agreements. Assist with preparation of new and non-competing sponsored project budgets; prepare and submit entire proposals through Penn systems. Monitor expenditures for compliance; perform general ledger reconciliations; produce routine and ad-hoc financial/grant status reports and quarterly forecasts.

Develops, negotiates, routes, and maintains subcontracts with multiple institutions funded by sponsored projects and the Orphan Disease Center. Prepare subcontract PO's and manage tracking system to ensure receipt, payment, and closing of PO's. This position requires frequent interaction with the School of Medicine's Office of Research Support Services and the University's Office of Research Services, as well as outside sponsoring agencies. Maintain working knowledge of finance, research, and compliance policies.

Grants Manager B: The Grants Manager B will work more independently and actively participate in specific projects, including the annual budget submission. The Grants Manager B will work on the more complicated grants including Industry Sponsored Research Agreements with multiple subprojects and sub-contracts. Moreover, it is expected that the Grants Manager B candidate will have a greater grants management experience than the Grants Manager A candidate, such that s/he can make greater contributions, including engaging in financial analysis.

This position reports to a senior administrator within the department and has dotted reported line to the PSOM Office of Research Support Services.

Qualifications: Grants Manager A: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting with 3 to 5 years of experience in pre and post award research administration or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience in University research and financial systems, including Business Objects/Data Warehouse, PennERA, PennWorks/UMIS, BEN Financials strongly preferred. Experience with administering highly complexed grants, contracts, and sponsored agreements strongly preferred. Proficiency in MS Office Word and Excel required, with additional computer skills a plus. Must be detailed oriented, flexible and possess ability to prioritize.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills desired. Supervisory experience desired. Ability to maintain confidentiality with respect to highly sensitive data required.
Grants Manager B: Same as above but with at least 5-7 years of experience.
