The Curry School of Education and the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia are seeking applicants for multiple open rank tenure-track or tenured faculty positions in the area of simulated learning environments. In collaboration with other schools across UVA, our faculty are working together to develop simulations that will transform the nature of professional preparation and are seeking a leader in the technological aspects of that work. The incumbent will collaborate with colleagues on the development, design, implementation, and evaluation of simulated learning environments for the purposes of professional preparation. They will provide intellectual and design leadership for the technological components of simulated learning environments. Other responsibilities include serving as a resource, mentor, and guide for faculty efforts to integrate simulated learning environments into professional preparation programs; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of educational technology or related fields; and mentoring and advising students.
A doctoral degree is required prior to the start date of this position in one of the following fields: computer sciences, learning sciences, instructional technology, machine learning, intelligent tutoring systems, or artificial intelligence. Experience with machine learning, "deep learning," artificial intelligence, virtual reality systems and/or work in simulation of complex social settings is required. A record of collaboration with or prior work experience in related industry contexts and/or experience leading technology-driven, educational project teams is required. Experience developing, implementing, and refining simulation exercises in various settings is also required. Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is strongly preferred. Finally, experience with multi-disciplinary research and development projects is also preferred.
For a tenure track appointment, potential to obtain extramural funding for experimental or other causal-inference research in the areas of interest outlined above, including an already established publication record is required.
For appointment as Associate or Full Professor without term the applicant must have an established national reputation, a documented line of research related to the areas of interest outlined above and a track record of existing and sustained extramural funding.
