The University of Virginia School of Architecture is seeking an accomplished designer and experienced educator who will lead our highly ranked Department of Landscape Architecture and participate in its innovative teaching and creative research. The new chair will be an advocate for progressive design thinking and the pursuit of research excellence in the field of Landscape Architecture while contributing to the School's national and international reputation. As the head of one of four disciplinary areas; Architecture, Architectural History, Landscape Architecture, and Urban and Environmental Planning, the Landscape Department Chair will advance and build upon the unique strengths and accomplishments of the MLA program, support its ongoing growth, and be a resource to the entire School of Architecture participating in, and facilitating new cross-disciplinary curricular initiatives in addition to supporting the interdisciplinary PhD program. Candidates for this position should have experience in academic leadership, a commitment to excellence, and a demonstrated record of distinction in professional practice and/or design research, scholarship, and teaching. The qualifications of the candidate should be consistent with a tenured appointment at the level of an Associate or Full Professor, with a terminal degree in landscape architecture (MLA) or advanced graduate degree.
