The University of Kentucky College of Medicine invites applications and seeks nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. The successful candidate will also serve as Physician-in-Chief for the Kentucky Children's Hospital.

The Department of Pediatrics has an outstanding training program in General Pediatrics and three combined training programs: 1) Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, 2) Adult Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry, and 3) Child Neurology. UK Pediatrics also offers unique programs directed at child advocacy and international health. The Department of Pediatrics consists of over ninety 90 faculty members and is composed of subspecialty divisions in adolescent medicine, ambulatory, cardiology, child abuse, child advocacy, child psychiatry, community pediatrics, critical care, endocrinology, gastroenterology, genetics/metabolism, general pediatrics, hematology/oncology, hospitalist, infectious disease, neonatology, nephrology, neurology, pediatric surgery, pulmonary, radiology, research, rheumatology, and school health.

The Kentucky Children's Hospital (KCH), a hospital-within-a hospital, serves as a subspecialty regional referral and pediatric care center for Central and Eastern Kentucky. We have more than 70 pediatric subspecialists and over 300 pediatric nurses working in 24 areas, as well as respiratory therapists, dietitians, social workers and pharmacists, all of whom are dedicated to caring for children. Pediatric outpatient care is provided at the Kentucky Clinic at the Family Care Center, as well as at several satellite clinics located throughout Lexington.

The University of Kentucky College of Medicine seeks a visionary Chair with demonstrated leadership abilities, a strong record in academic medicine, ideally with an NIH-funded research program (current or previous record of funding), with administrative experience as a division chief or program/center director who could provide strong leadership skills as a listener, decision-maker, humanist and effective advocate for the discipline in the department of Pediatrics and its faculty.

We seek a Chair who understands the future of child health in Kentucky and beyond. The successful candidate should be recognized for the exceptional accomplishments as a clinician and academician and will be required to continue to practice while serving as chair. Furthermore, the candidate should have skills in collaboration and the ability to learn and share, and should have people-skills that promote, foster and facilitate the trust of colleagues, the broader university and those who might make philanthropic gifts to child health or the university. The chair should have impeccable integrity and be an effective and able communicator.
