Position Summary: The School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a well-qualified leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R). Established in 1993, the department currently has 16 clinical faculty and 4 research faculty. Comprehensive clinical care is provided in a 30-bed hospital-based CARF-accredited acute inpatient rehabilitation facility, three subacute/skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities (SNFs) and various outpatient settings including the UNC Spine and Imaging Center and the UNC Center for Rehabilitation Care. The Department is also home to the UNC Program on Integrative Medicine, a NIH T32 fellowship, an ACGME-accredited residency program in PM&R (3 residents/year), and medical partner/clinical site of UNC's Brain and Body Health Program for former NFL players. The department has excellent facilities and strong collaborative relationships with other departments and centers across the University. The Chair is responsible for the overall management, budget, personnel, resource allocation, academic planning, research program and policy implementation for the department. The Chair is to provide leadership and direction in the clinical, educational, research and professional missions of the department in conjunction with the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Hospitals/UNC Health Care.
Education Requirements: Minimum qualifications include a M.D./D.O. or PhD degree.
Qualification and Experience: Candidate must have a distinguished and creative record of research accomplishment, administrative skills, and a commitment to education and diversity is required. Sub-specialty board certifications in a relevant area (i.e., Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Brain Injury Medicine, Spinal Cord Injury Medicine, etc.) is highly desired.
