Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC), a fully-affiliated teaching hospital with the University of Toronto, provides one of the two Regional Level 3 Perinatal Units in the Greater Toronto Area. SHSC in partnership with the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, is seeking to recruit 1 Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist to our Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to meet the needs of our expanding role in delivering high-risk services. The position will have a significant academic component and therefore the successful applicant will be appointed as a clinician-investigator, with 40% protected time. The expected start date is July 1, 2017.
The position will have a focus on quality improvement (QI), and knowledge translation (KT) especially in the field of fetal ultrasound. The position is suitable for mid-career individuals with an established interest, or newly-qualified individuals from a subspecialty training program in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. The Department is located in a recently-opened (2010), state of the art facility at the Sunnybrook campus, situated in mid-Toronto.
The Department is funded for 4250 deliveries per year, with 28 high-risk pregnancy beds and 48 neonatal intensive care beds. We function as an integral part of the Provincial High Risk Maternal Transfer Program, accepting maternal transfers of high-risk pregnancies from surrounding city hospitals and Central/North East Ontario. Our MFM Division is an international leader in the management of multiple pregnancies and is integrated with the Sunnybrook Research Institute, including the Centre for Maternal Infant and Child Research Unit (CMICR) that is internationally recognized for its expertise in the coordination of multi-centre, randomized controlled trials.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinical practice and teaching for all levels of trainees including fellows in MFM. He/she will be expected to partner with existing research resources based at Sunnybrook, including the Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI), to develop research themes, ideally aligned with clinical interests. The potential for administrative leadership positions within MFM and high-risk Obstetrics is anticipated.
The qualified applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the RCPSC and must hold an MD degree, be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment with the University of Toronto's Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the minimum rank of Assistant Professor. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will promote and demonstrate excellence in professional practice and conduct.
