Digital Content Strategist
Job Description Summary: Under the general direction of the Director of Digital Marketing, the Digital Content Strategist assists the university in reaching its digital communications and marketing goals related to brand awareness and affinity, student recruitment, and fundraising by continually refining the university's digital content strategy. The Digital Content Strategist oversees the planning, design, implementation and ongoing maintenance of websites and digital communications and marketing campaigns, including the development and implementation of mobile platforms, and other demand-generation communication programs. With a solid understanding of the digital landscape and functionality, this individual will have a track record for creating, executing and tracking successful digital campaigns. With a goal to increase brand awareness and preference, generate qualified leads for admissions and fundraising, improve customer service and deepen customer engagement, the Digital Content Strategist must have the ability to pursue projects from conception to completion and possess the ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The Digital Content Strategist must also possess strong communications and project-management skills along with the ability to communicate clearly regarding priorities and goals. To be successful in this position, a candidate must be part leader, part writer and part digital marketing/advertising guru. Duties include, but are not limited to: 1. This position is responsible for determining how Furman University's communications and marketing content can best be used across the university's digital properties to best achieve university goals. This strategic insight includes the ability to discern how the university's brand and messaging are effectively relayed and how the content can best inform and engage the university's primary constituents. This position must drive the content creation and optimization process from end-to-end including initial concept, strategy, research, approvals, fact-checking, keywords, editing and final proofing. 2. This position collaborates closely with other content producers and designers within the University Communications office to create original pieces of content as well as re-purpose content from other publications for use on the web. This position works closely with various staff and faculty within campus departments to develop effective web and social media presences for those departments. 3. The ever-evolving nature of technology requires this position to vigilantly watch for innovative techniques, tools, and emerging best practices that can be adopted by the university to allow for a more effective, efficient, and more usable website and better engagement with constituents. 4. This position requires a strong understanding and adherence to best practices related to the use of web analytics programs such as Google Analytics. This position requires a person who is metrics-minded and able to discern how content strategy is adjusted so that the university may better reach goals related to prospective student contacts, visits, applications and deposits, as well as alumni volunteering and fundraising. 5. As the position that is ultimately responsible for all digital content, this position works closely with the digital marketing team and content producers within the University Communications office and across campus to source all content. This position may also be required to edit the content to make it most suitable for the web and will often be responsible for generating original content. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field. Strong analytical skills with ability to utilize metrics to track performance against goals using Google Analytics or similar web analytics platform. Optimization of content through user-based and A/B testing procedures. Minimum 3 years' experience in relevant role with digital communications and marketing experience. Minimum 3 years' experience writing web content and experience in inbound marketing, online business writing, email marketing, SEM and SEO best practices and techniques. Minimum 3 years' experience related to PPC, Google Adwords, and Google Analytics. Minimum 3 years' experience in email campaign management from strategy to execution. Ability to work with WordPress or similar WYSIWYG website CMS, HTML and CSS with a reasonable efficiency. Ability to write and edit content in a variety of styles, voices and tones, adaptable to different target audiences, product categories and branding initiatives. Ability to think creatively and strategically. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for interaction with University Communications colleagues as well as faculty and staff from across campus. Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in written form, is required. Self-confidence, strong organizational skills, and effective time management skills are essential. Excellent project and time-management skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, focus and influence. Demonstrated ability to work positively/effectively across an organization and with customers/external support resources. Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook), Adobe.
Preferred Qualifications: Hubspot Inbound Marketing system. SEO optimization platform such as Moz or Brightedge.
Salary Grade: Level 7 $46,400.00 - $74,100.00
