Florida Polytechnic University, the newest member of the State University System of Florida and the only one dedicated exclusively to applied learning and research Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), is seeking two Assistant Directors of Marketing and Communications.

Ideal candidates have significant experience in digital marketing and/or public relations as well as proven project management, organization and communications skills. These positions will play a key role in strengthening Florida Poly’s brand identity; extending its story throughout the state, nation and world; generating leads for recruitment and advancement; and building affinity and engagement among all audience groups.

Florida Poly is a brand-new, four-year public university offering six bachelors and two masters degree programs, all in emerging STEM fields. Our faculty and students are exploring cutting-edge topics like machine intelligence, cyber security, nanotechnology, energy sustainability, big data and more.

SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Florida Poly’s Marketing and Communications department is adopting an agency-like structure to best serve the entire university and its developing research institutions. The Assistant Directors of Marketing and Communications will be the primary account managers for the team, working directly with assigned departments such as Academic Affairs, Admissions, Development, Government Relations, Entrepreneurship & Industry Partnerships and Student Affairs. They assist in shaping strategic Marketing and Communications campaigns to achieve university objectives, and they will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of campaigns and projects including creating project roadmaps, managing campaign/project budgets, making tactical assignments as needed to fellow team members, communicating regularly to all stakeholders, and reporting results. 

In addition to being the primary account managers for the team, the Assistant Directors may also assist with tactical assignments as needed and based on ability. This may include graphic design, copywriting/editing, web development and publishing, social media, email marketing, search engine optimization, digital advertising, photography, etc.

The Assistant Directors will be primarily based in the department’s administrative office on the campus of Polk State College but will also spend a great deal of time on Florida Poly’s ultra-modern campus, which is already becoming an iconic Florida landmark.

Ideal candidates will be creative and data-driven meticulously organized and detail-oriented experienced multi-taskers digitally savvy brand storytellers sticklers for quality and accuracy true team players. The Assistant Directors report to the Director of Marketing and Communications and work very closely with all members of the Marketing and Communications Department, which includes a Content Coordinator, Social Media (Digital) Coordinator, Graphic Designer and Department Admin. Our department culture is deeply rooted in collaboration and teamwork. We work hard, but we work hard together, and we have fun doing it. We have team meetings at least once per week, and everyone has an opportunity to shape the agenda, share ideas and weigh-in on current projects. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as the primary account manager for assigned departments, overseeing campaigns, projects and communications with those stakeholders Serve as one of the team’s primary brand managers, proofing projects for brand consistency, tone, spelling and grammar, and overall quality Assign campaign/project components and requests to other members of the Marketing and Communications team or approved vendors as needed Manage campaign/project budgets as assigned Assist in shaping overall branding, project and/or campaign strategies Attend strategic planning, operations and department meetings as assigned Assist with tactical support (e.g., graphic design, copywriting/editing, photography, web development and publishing, social media, public relations, etc.) as needed, based on ability Assist with/oversee special events and virtual events as needed Collect data and report results for assigned campaigns and projects Serve on the university’s Crisis Communications Team along with all members of the Marketing and Communications department Other duties as assigned  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Excellent organizational and project management skills Excellent writing and editing skills with knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and AP style Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with various audiences verbally and in writing Understanding of search engine optimization/search engine marketing to extend brand reach Ability to pay close attention to detail and deadlines Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment Strong knowledge, interest or enthusiasm for education and/or science and technology is a plus Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Work, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint Knowledge and experience of content management systems, particularly WordPress At least some experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications such as PhotoShop, InDesign and/or Premiere Experience with Google Docs is a plus Experience with SalesForce is a plus Experience with graphic design, photography and/or video production is a plus Experience with digital advertising, email automation, SEO/SEM is a plus Experience with MailChimp, Pardot, Constant Contact and/or other email platforms is a plus  

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

4-6 years in a digital marketing, communications or public relations role Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Business.  

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

6+ years experience in a digital marketing, communications or public relations role Experience as an account, project or campaign manager Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Business. Experience working with a public agency in the State of Florida, such as the State University System of Florida Understanding of Florida’s broad public records law (“Sunshine Law”).

EXPECTED STARTING SALARY: $56,000 - $70,000, Commensurate with experience.
