Responsibilities

Perform a variety of duties in Dr. Bart Haynes's laboratory using laboratory animals as models for producing antibodies and diagnostics for HIV vaccine development.

Perform small animal identity and sample collecting to include anesthesia, eartagging, tattooing, lavage, bleeds and euthanasia.

Perform Animal immunizations and formulations to include IM, IP, SC and IV injections of guinea pigs, mice and rabbits.

Perform sample processing of blood and mucosal samples and isolating PBMC in preparation for DNA extractions.

Maintain record keeping for tracking of animals, medical records, samples and schedules using Freezerworks and LDMS databases.

Maintain inventory of synthetic peptides. Receive, organize, maintain in database. Retrieve and weigh peptide samples upon request.

Maintain a sufficient inventory and order supplies necessary for all procedures.

Work in Accessioning Lab for processing incoming NHP samples including database entry, printing vial labels and organizing, aliquoting and storing samples.

Access database and freezers for pulling frozen samples for collaborating labs and assisting in developing manifests for shipping reagents.

Confer with supervisor to review work assignments and develop plans for ongoing and future animal studies.

Serve as Chemical Safety Officer to maintain compliant records and make lab members aware of any new safety regulations.

Perform other duties as requested by the Principal Investigator or senior lab staff.
