Occ Summary

Work performed:

Conduct a variety of investigations into the pathophysiological basis of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease.

Plan, develop and implement appropriate experimental approaches and procedures that will lead to new knowledge in these areas.

Specifically:

1. Collect information and data through observation and experimentation, applying molecular and cellular biological and biochemical methods and protocols.

2. Apply these methods and protocols to cell, tissue and whole animal preparations.

3. Collect the data according to the highest standards; evaluate and interpret data in a timely fashion.

4. Confer with principle investigator and other team members in determining specific experiments to be undertaken, and to discuss results and next steps.

5. Prepare reports, seminars and other presentations detailing progress and recommendations for next steps.

6. Keep abreast of latest developments by reviewing journals, abstracts and other elements of the scientific literature, to aid in design of experiments and supporting techniques and methods.

7. Supervise, train and instruct residents, interns, students or lower level personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures.

8. Perform other related duties and administrative tasks related to the work described herein, including keeping current with all required safety classes.

Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology or other directly related scientific field.

Experience

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Preferences:
Work requires expertise in light microscope techniques, Western blotting, ELISA assays, cell culture, developing and conducting biochemical assays.
