Occupational Summary
This position is responsible for independent performance and trouble-shooting experiments directed to the mass spectrometry analysis of proteins from ocular tissues. The experiments include, but are not limited, to animal maintenance, ocular tissue sample preparation, histological analysis of retinal structure, immunohistochemistry, quantitative western blotting and mass spectrometry analysis of protein composition.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • The complexity of this research program requires technical skills sufficient for independently performing and trouble-shooting significant portions of experimental design and data analysis.
  • The candidate should have at least two years of full-time experience in basic biochemical and cell biology techniques, including first-hand experience in some techniques listed above.
Work Performed
  • Review journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous experiments to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques.
  • Conduct experiments independently
  • Trouble-shoot experiments independently
  • Analyze data using advance software packages, e.g. Photoshop, LiCor, Prizm, Progenesis
  • Discuss data with the Principal Investigator and other PhD scientists in the lab
  • Prepare written reports
  • Present digested literature, data and data analysis at laboratory meetings

Education
