Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Foundations Program in the College of Visual Arts and Design (CVAD) provides the basic curriculum to develop the practical skills and conceptual methodologies necessary to enter any of the majors within the College. The program promotes the understanding of historic and contemporary currents and their relationships. The College of Visual Arts and Design is one of the largest schools of art and design in the country and the Foundations classes have an average annual enrollment of 1200 students. The work of these students demonstrates the rigorous critical inquiry, practical skill-building and visual exploration that are hallmarks of this well-established program.
The Foundations Program is housed in the NASAD-accredited College of Visual Arts and Design in the Carnegie Tier 1 research University of North Texas. The Foundations Director will work to foster the development of the next generation of artists, designers, and educators in a department that seeks to encourage the integration of artistic disciplines. A viable candidate embraces a consultative approach toward decision-making and is forward thinking regarding new technologies.
We are seeking a scholar educator with the vision, interest, and abilities to successfully support and lead this program and work with the foundations communities in the state of Texas. The successful candidate will be ready to ensure that the Foundations Program is serving all of the majors in the college. Beyond the philosophical and developmental responsibilities, specific tasks include: Personnel Management, Scheduling, Budget Management, Coordinating Meetings and events, Facility supervision, and Records Management. Teaching assignment to be determined. There will be an additional one and a half months of summer work contractually required annually for additional pay.

Required: MFA or equivalent terminal degree in one of the programs in CVAD with a minimum of 6-years college-level teaching experience are required. Candidate must present evidence of administrative experience.
The successful candidate must provide evidence of on-going research, scholarly or creative activities in his or her field and professional experience sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure.
