This position plays a key role in assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Minerva Initiative grant that funds fundamental research in international security using DoD doctrine, ecological, cognitive neuroscientific, and international relations/security theories in examining the development and deployment of resources in complex strategic ecosystems. Further, these theoretical insights and concomitant case studies will be used in constructing an agent-based modeling and simulation platform as a strategic decision making support tool.The successful candidate will have one to two years of experience in a combination of: supervising group research, project management, budgeting, coding using Python and/or Java, supervising or managing teams of programmers, understanding/interest in international security issues, and knowledge of machine learning techniques. The description of work that follows is nonexhaustive.

Description of Work:

Project Management (40%):
Under the supervision of the PI, this position assists in the implementation of fundamental research and technology projects, both administrative and/or instructional Assists in the development of project proposals, cost estimates and budgets, timelines and schedules
  • Prepares reports for PI on status of all development efforts for specific research and technology projects
  • Coordinates and assists in the development of electronic and written materials for project management proposals, presentations, and status updates
  • Coordinates with qualitative research team
  • Assists in the coordination of all development personnel
  • Conducts end user satisfaction assessments
  • Prepares development plan for extension of funding as needed
Project Developer (40%):
Reviewing current systems
  • Presenting ideas for system improvements, including cost proposals
  • Working closely with analysts, designers and staff
  • Producing detailed specifications and designing architecture/writing (pseudo) code
  • Testing the product in controlled, real situations before going live
  • Preparation of training manuals for users
  • Maintaining the systems once they are up and running
Administrative and educational (20%):
Serve as a key facilitator in training programmers and analysts in new techniques and procedures, and lead training of end users. This includes developing technical and end user manuals. Maintain data integrity. This will require maintaining our server, backup systems, and ensuring recovery from catastrophe procedures are in place and updated. Supervise interns and analysts in their research and development of code. Serve as bridge to other academic research teams to leverage best practices.
