Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Counseling Program at UNT seeks a faculty member with a demonstrated record of strength in research, leadership, and teaching to support the program's scholarly, professional, and academic initiatives. This position will contribute to the program, college, and university's commitment to maintain excellence at the national level. The individual selected will serve a nine-month, tenure-track appointment beginning Fall semester 2017. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Part-time summer teaching is contingent on student demand and funding.
The Counseling Program offers masters' and doctoral degrees in counseling and an undergraduate minor in counseling associate studies. The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) has conferred accreditation on the following tracks in the counseling program at UNT: clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and the PhD in counseling.
The UNT Counseling Program was the first in the nation to receive the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision's Outstanding Program Award and earned that recognition again in 2000. Beginning in 1998 when U.S. News & World Report began ranking counseling and counseling psychology programs housed in colleges of education, the UNT Counseling Program ranked among the top 20 programs nationally for nine years; for 2013, the program ranked 13th in the nation and 1st in Texas. In 2016, the Program ranked 1st in Texas, 3rd in the South, and 4th in the nation by Best-Education-Schools.com; and it ranked 10th in the nation by GraduatePrograms.com. The University of North Texas is a student-centered public research university with over 37,000 students, one-third of whom are graduate students. UNT is conveniently located in the vibrant and rapidly growing Denton-Dallas-Fort Worth region.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (1) pursuing a focused line of research leading to publications in refereed journals and to extramural funding; (2) teaching two  courses each semester in CACREP core and counseling specialty areas; (3) serving on doctoral committees and advising/mentoring students; (4) providing clinical supervision to master's and doctoral level students; (5) working with faculty members in the Counseling Program and with those centers, institutes, and clinics affiliated with the Program to maintain and enhance the Program's national stature; and (6) participating actively in professional organizations and university committees.

The candidate must hold a doctorate in counseling or counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program by start of employment and must be licensure-eligible as a Professional Counselor in Texas. A record of effective research, publication, professional activity, teaching, and clinical supervision is expected.
Preferred qualifications include (1) preparation to contribute to the Counseling Program's national reputation through demonstrated leadership in one or more specialty areas such as school counseling, couple and family counseling, and/or group counseling, and (2) licensure as a Professional Counselor and/or certification as a school counselor in one's state.
