Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Engineering Technology in the College of Engineering at the University of North Texas (UNT) anticipates filling a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in its Mechanical Engineering Technology program with special emphasis in mechanical design starting in fall 2017. Faculty members are expected to establish a vigorous externally funded research program, develop collaborative research initiatives with university wide constituents, articulate well with industry, and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and to the continuous improvement and outcome-based assessment of the program to maintain ETAC/ABET accreditation. The Department continues to experience growth in undergraduate and graduate student enrollment and in industrial and research funding support and is committed to educating superior individuals for a rewarding career in engineering through innovative teaching and application-based research. The Department is unique in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and it currently serves over 500 students pursuing BSET degrees in Construction, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering Technology, as well as the M.S. in Engineering Technology with concentrations in Construction Management, Engineering Management, Electrical Systems and Mechanical Systems. Faculty also regularly contribute to Ph.D. programs offered in the College of Engineering and are responsible for over $500K in externally funded annual expenses. Earned Ph.D. at the time of appointment, and undergraduate and graduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or closely related fields. The successful applicant will exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills and have a combination of teaching, research, or relevant industrial experience in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology with emphasis in mechanical design. At the Associate Professor rank, the successful applicant will also have accumulated a substantial record of scholarship that includes funding and publications in relevant fields, and a record of undergraduate and graduate student mentoring.
Outstanding candidates with additional relevant expertise in aeronautical, electromechanical, or HVAC engineering technology commensurate with current or emerging departmental educational and research directions are especially encouraged to apply. PE licensure or the ability to become licensed is highly desired.
