Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation is pleased to announce a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank in the area of Recreation, Event and Sport Management to commence Fall of 2017.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the continued development and success of the department and program through research, teaching, service, outreach, and mentoring of students. This tenure-track faculty member will be expected to demonstrate a record of scholarly research that involves publications in quality outlets, professional presentations, and securing external funding in recreation, event, and sport management necessary to obtain tenure. Service to graduate students, including serving on and chairing of theses and culminating projects, is expected.
In addition, this faculty member will be expected to engage in quality instruction and contribute to the Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation with primary assignment in the Recreation, Event and Sport Management (RESM) program. The position requires a focus in recreation, event and sport management as well as supervision of graduate student work and conduct of research in a recognized area of recreation, events and sport. Instructional roles include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in recreation, events and sport as well as courses including: introduction to RESM; leadership; events; global sport; social issues in RESM; or qualitative research methods. Supervision of internships may also be required. Teaching assignments may be at UNT's New College, Frisco as well as at UNT in Denton. Service to the Department, College Education, University of North Texas, and to the profession is also expected.

The Recreation, Event and Sport Management Program has successfully placed alumni and interns with organizations and agencies such as the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, FC Dallas, Oklahoma City Thunder, Sacramento Kings, Texas Motor Speedway, American Airlines Center, Frisco Roughriders, Texas Legends, Westin Stonebriar golf course, and the Dallas/Fort Worth regional park and recreation departments and YMCAs.

Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in recreation, sport or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience and research in an area of sports and recreation studies and management is required for this position as is an active pursuit of external funding and grant writing. Also required is a commitment to advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and willingness to conduct outreach with external sports business enterprises and the wider recreation, event and sport management communities.
Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in higher education and teaching experience with diverse student populations. Preference will also be given to candidates with an understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of the recreation, event and sport management industry. Experience in the recreation, event and sport management industries is desirable.
