This position (Clinical Research Specialist) reports directly to the Project Leader in charge of Community Engagement and Recruitment in Durham, NC CTSI/Duke Kannapolis office. Participates in research studies (clinical/epidemiological) conducted by principal investigator(s) at Duke University Medical Center; perform a variety of duties involved in the collection, compilation, documentation and analysis of clinical research data.

Work Performed
Uses approved mechanisms for the education, recruitment and screening of participants for different research studies.

Coordinates and participates in the timely screening and education of study participants by (1) working at study sites, (2) initiating telephone interviews with interested study participants for enrollment and follow up, and (3) working at various community events.

Candidate needs to be able to perform a variety of responsibilities un-supervised and must be self-motivated.

Candidate must also be able to work flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekend hours.

Candidate must be comfortable working in busy (clinical and non-clinical) settings and must be able to lift and move necessary study equipment on occasion (lift greater than 20 lbs).

Confer with study participants to educate and explain purpose of the study, explain enrollment requirements and schedule participants for enrollment or follow up visits. Ensure compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements of regulatory agencies; identify problems and/or inconsistencies; recommend corrective actions as appropriate.

Maintains documentation of all human subjects on approved study research protocols who have participated in any portion of the screening/enrollment process.

Recruits fairly giving equal opportunity to all those who meet inclusion criteria. Participates in the role of human subject advocate throughout the entire study period.

Participates in select quality control measures related to participant recruitment, screening, self-report questionnaires, and reimbursement to assure that protocol guidelines are adhered to as well as ICH and FDA guidelines.

Demonstrates knowledge and application of all safety standards as they relate to job responsibilities, human subjects, staff and the general operation of the Duke office.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications
One year of relevant experience (e.g., research, clinical, interaction with study population, program coordination).
Bilingual, Spanish speaking
Community-based research, engagement, and relationship building experience
Strong Interpersonal communication and teamwork skills
Ability to adapt to changing community environments
