The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking a tenure-ineligible Assistant Professor to join its clinical faculty within the Behavioral Medicine Center. Approximately 50% of the incumbent's time will be spent in providing behavioral health consultation and liaison services to medical inpatient units across the health system, as well as outpatient, empirically-based psychological services (e.g., diagnostic assessment and intervention) to individuals diagnosed with a wide variety of medical and psychiatric disorders. Depending on the applicant's areas of expertise, a portion of the incumbent's time may be spent in the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center of the University of Virginia providing empirically supported psychological services and treatment to patients diagnosed with cancer or providing other specialized interventions or assessments through the Behavioral Medicine Center or Neurocognitive Assessment Lab. The remaining time will be spent in the training/supervision of practicum students, psychiatry residents, and/or psychology fellows, and/or on NIH-funded research projects, as well as other clinical trials, conducted in the Behavioral Medicine Research Center or other clinical locations.
Candidates must have a PhD/PsyD or equivalent, in Clinical Psychology or in a related field from an APA accredited program. Candidates must be license-eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia and must be licensed by date of hire. Post-doctoral experience in Behavioral Medicine, Health Psychology or Psycho-Oncology is preferred. Preference will be given to those with experience providing empirically-based psychological interventions with medical populations, consulting with medical staff, working with neurological populations including patients with a history of migraine or brain injury, patients with cancer, and performing medically-specialized psychological evaluations, including evaluations of surgical candidates.
This position may be eligible to convert to tenure-track at an appropriate time in the future, consistent with SOM Promotion and Tenure guidelines and candidate qualifications.
