Position Summary


At Stony Brook Medicine, Outpatient Financial Investigator - Lead, will have primary responsibility, with Sr Manager & Sr Lead Financial Screener, Registration Services collaboration, for the coordination and day to day operation of the Financial Screening and verification of the Registration assigned unit. Will implement all new protocols and ensure staff understand and utilize these tools. That will include financially screening, preregistration and auditing of demographic and financial information obtained at the time of registration. Will provide on-going daily staff direction re registrations, co- payments, and financial screening.

Duties of the Outpatient Financial Investigator may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Ensure on time and complete financial screening/ investigation and authorization requirements to meet the number of “days out for pre reg”. Financially screen and assume role as lead financial screener and organize the handling of the daily operations/ financial screening at assigned location.

  • Advise supervisor and Sr Manager of staff concerns, errors and training needs. Will be expected to be continuously auditing staff work for errors. Will provide reports and data on these issues as requested.

  • Responsible to serve as subject matter expert for staff and others (i.e.: IT) as appropriate. Assists the supervisor in outpatient financial screening/call center as appropriate to ensure automated eligibility and other financial screening initiatives. Assume responsibilities of the Supervisor

  • Departmental reports-responsible for financial screeners. Responsible for the completion and

    updates of departmental worklists related to insurance updates, verifications and authorizations for outpatient & elective Inpatient Financial Services.

  • Quality Assurance - When assigned, responsible for auditing registrations, reporting data as assigned, and training staff at the Outpatient site.

  • Completes other special projects or assignments as assigned.

  • This position may require that you work in the hospital and / or off site areas

Qualifications


Required Qualifications: Associates Degree plus two years’ experience in a medical administrative setting. In lieu of a degree, three (3) years of Financial Investigation /Screening experience with demonstrated knowledge. Prior health care financial investigation/screening and authorization experience to include supervisory responsibilities, insurance/ registration knowledge, medical terminology. Demonstrates competence in written, verbal, computer and calculation skills.
