ASSISTANT, ASSOCIATE, FULL PROFESSORS IN SUSTAINABILITY: SMART CITIES
The University of Missouri (MU) aspires to greatly enhance sustainability research and education with an emphasis on the intersections of sustainable energy, water, mineral resources, food, infrastructure, and environment. In recognition that human actions are largely driven by innate human needs, influenced by culture and media, and mediated by policy, a truly multidisciplinary approach is needed to address the interactions of natural and social systems and to maintain sustainability.
The MU College of Engineering, under the leadership of Dean Elizabeth Loboa, is in the process of hiring up to 50 faculty members in three strategic areas: Big Data Analytics, Biomedical Innovation, and Sustainability. Up to 15 of these new hires will be in the sustainability area. These new faculty members may be joint hires with other MU colleges/schools, for example the Art & Science (e.g., Biological Science; Geological Science), Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (e.g., School of Natural Resources; Agricultural and Applied Economics, Food Science), Truman School of Public Affairs, Journalism, and Medicine. MU is the first public university west of the Mississippi River, the flagship of the four-campus University of Missouri System, and a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU). The university is particularly strong in the four Mizzou/MU Advantage areas - Food for the Future, Media of the Future, One Health/One Medicine, and Sustainable Energy. MU has a long history and strong culture for collaboration in research and education; and co-location of all major programs on the same campus facilitates such collaborations.
We invite applications for tenure-track positions at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels with a focus on smart cities. Examples of desirable areas of research in smart cities include smart and green infrastructure, resilient cities, intelligent transportation systems, connected and autonomous vehicles, climate change, renewable systems, sustainable land-use, and livable communities with scalable technologies. Successful candidates are expected to establish a strong externally funded research program at the interface between engineering and sustainability sciences and policy. Each hire will have a tenure home most relevant to her/his background and be expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the home unit as well as in the broadly-defined sustainability areas.
Applicants should have earned the highest degree in a relevant discipline. Those with relevant postdoctoral experience are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates should have a strong background in engineering or physical, behavioral, and social sciences, or other areas related to sustainability.
