National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL)
This position will maintain, diagnose and repair sophisticated mechanical equipment. This includes working with plumbing systems, running copper and working with PVC and Iron pipes. Also works with pumps up to 900 HP, compressors, automated valves, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and filtration systems in accordance to OSHA standards. He/she will inspect and track equipment condition and performance while working in a tightly controlled safety environment. Maintains required logs and records and track material usage. Build to specification unique platforms for magnet systems using a variety of construction materials and methods. Tasks are completed with an understanding of complex process systems including magnet cooling and liquid helium production for safe isolation and deenergization. Relocate and set up delicate scientific equipment including x-rays, superconducting magnets, electron microscopes, furnaces, etc. Remodel laboratory and office spaces, Responsibilities include final layout, installation and finishing to a high standard of quality.
A Bachelor's degree or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years. Experience maintaining and repairing sophisticated mechanical equipment and familiarity with construction building codes. Experience with and ability to safely operate machinery, power and hand tools, equipment and materials used in area of work. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and establish effective working relationships. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments. Ability to monitor the work safety of others.
Familiarity with construction building codes particularly related to plumbing systems.

Anticipated Salary Range
Anticipated starting salary is at or near $40,000.
This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
Soft Money Funded Position
This is a soft money funded position, with renewal based on available funds and the needs of the University.
