Responsibilities

The Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs and Medical Student Research (ADGSMSR) provides senior leadership for the creation, development, delivery, and management of graduate degree and graduate certificate programs offered by the College of Medicine, both PhD and Master's degrees. A key responsibility is collaboration with the Graduate Program Committee and Graduate Faculty to develop new degree programs that respond to market needs for professional graduate education, as well as to expand and enhance existing programs. This position retains oversight for the recruitment of students to the programs. In addition, the ADGSMSR works with admissions committees to determine admissions and academic standards for new and current programs. The Assistant Dean is responsible for managing the graduate program and administrative budgets, authorizing expenditures, and providing fiscal oversight. The ADGSMSR is also responsible for oversight of research activities and related funding for MS1, MS2, MS3, and MS4 students in the College of Medicine including oversight of the summer research fellowship program. The ADGSMSR is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the research infrastructure which will enhance research skills and increase research opportunities for students and clinical faculty mentors.
The ADGSMSR reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs and provides leadership and day-to-day guidance for the PhD and Master's degree graduate programs across the College of Medicine. The ADGSMSR works with the Academic Coordinators (AC) within the departments and serves as a liaison to the University's central offices to support students at the graduate level. The ADGSMSR will be innovative and responsive in communication and outreach to students to create an environment in which students are well-informed about academic deadlines, career services, events, as well as enrollment, registration, financial aid, and counseling services. The ADGSMSR will be responsible for developing regular programming and services, as well as special events, to ensure that students feel connected within the College and are given ample opportunities to succeed in their areas of study.

Qualifications

Master's degree or higher from an accredited university or college.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in law, business, government, education, or another relevant field.
Minimum of three years of management experience.
Experience mentoring and/or training graduate or medical students in an educational setting.

Preferred

Advanced ability to understand industry and academic trends and data, and to translate them into strategic action plans.
Proven ability to forge mutually beneficial relationships with relevant stakeholders, such as businesses, governmental entities, educational institutions, and other potential partners.
Capacity to solve complex problems with creative solutions.
Experience in planning, organizing, and managing processes that bring about the successful completion of specific deliverables.
Ability to coordinate multiple events and activities while maintaining focus on details and outcomes.
Excellent management ability, including the ability to delegate strategically and to incent optimal performance.
Ability to function in a high-pace, collaborative environment.
Willingness to travel locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
