The Office of the Dean in the School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) provides overall leadership for the school which has ten departments and programs. HHS values diversity, creativity and balance in the life-long development of the total person. HHS, through teaching, scholarship, community engagement and service, prepares new generations of professionals, leaders, scholars, and entrepreneurs to enhance the quality of life of individuals, families, and communities.
The Assistant Dean functions in a confidential and direct support relationship to the HHS Dean and provides leadership, program planning, and strategic direction in resource development and management of HHS. This position participates as a key member of the HHS senior leadership team in collaboration with the Dean and other Assistant and Associate Deans and assists the HHS Dean in formulating, interpreting, and implementing policy within HHS. The position operates as the Dean's representative to an array of internal and external business vendors, administrators, Office of the Chancellor, Office of the Provost, Department Chairs, Center Directors, Development Office, other deans, prospective donors, Alumni Association, the HHS Board of Visitors, departmental advisory board members, faculty, staff, the general public, representatives from other agencies and universities, current and prospective students, and parents.

An advanced degree (Master's degree or higher) is required; a Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of five years of alternative or equivalent professional management experience and training may be substituted for the advanced degree. Possess high-level organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; strong ability to exercise considerable independent judgement and initiative in conducting the necessary operations within the school; ability to clearly document, report, and communicate complex issues and actions to all stakeholders, internal and external to HHS and the university; strong ability to anticipate needs of the school/organization and plan for and monitor deadlines; experience with strategic planning and with project management; ability to plan, design, and implement multiple initiatives and projects on time and within budget; exceptional oral and written communication, as well as presentation skills and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently, prioritize and meet deadlines, and solve problems, all while exhibiting good judgment and tact; ability to work with diverse groups and individuals at various sites throughout the school, university, and community; experience working in a fast-paced administrative environment; proficiency with word processing and with spreadsheet design, construction and management. Possess the capacity and willingness to undertake new projects, tasks, and skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with processes and policies of the University of North Carolina System; familiarity with Banner Finance and Banner HR reporting systems and experience working with Qualtrics.
