Summary

Responsible for the development and implementation of assigned engineering projects. Individual will direct the development and manufacture of large assembly fixtures, molds, special machines, and complex aerospace hardware. Responsibilities include planning and coordinating the tasks necessary to process these products through all stages of manufacture, on time, and at or under budget.

Position Duties

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
  1. Define the manufacturing approach
    • Review purchase orders and customer instructions to establish scope of work.
    • Compare the scope of work to the estimate for compliance.
    • If scope includes design, coordinate with design team, or outside vendor, to help produce the most efficient design within the scope of the requirements.
    • If scope includes design, facilitate design review meetings with customer and Stadco manufacturing team.
    • Hold planning meetings with Stadco manufacturing team to establish the most efficient manufacturing approach
    • Coordinate with the customer on all technical issues relating to the project.
  2. Develop and implement the manufacturing plan
    • Using the information gathered at the planning meetings, provide purchasing with an accurate Bill of Material using the Epicor ERP system.
    • Write a detailed manufacturing plan using the Epicor ERP system. Planning may include sketches, pictures, models or drawings as necessary to illustrate the process.
    • Design shop aid handling and holding fixtures as required.
    • Coordinate implementation of the manufacturing plan through engineering and quality approval.
  3. Coordinate manufacturing activities
    • Monitor the status of all activity related to the project, and modify the plan whenever and wherever possible to increase productivity.
    • Relay schedule or budget concerns to upper management
    • Coordinate and facilitate customer revisions. Provide feedback on any cost impacts to program management.
    • Provide technical support to manufacturing for any unplanned events. Coordinate with the customer as required, and develop sound engineering solutions that put the project back on track.
  4. Report status for schedule and budget analysis
    • Update project status charts weekly
    • Participate in weekly Estimate to Complete meetings, to monitor project health and status.
    • Find creative ways to increase productivity and improve profitability.


Qualifications

Education, Experience and Skills:

A BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is required, along with a minimum of 10 years experience in a related engineering field. Must have a proven record of directing development projects as a Project Engineer, and exposure to manufacturing processes such as die casting, sand casting, machined parts, welding and fabrication are a plus. An advanced degree is desirable.

Must have good oral & written communication skills and basic engineering analytical skills in the areas of machining, fixture design, welding and fabrication. An understanding of detail drawing standards and geometric tolerancing is essential. Basic CAD operating skills are required.

Must be able to work under light supervision, use independent judgment, and exercise discretion.
