Duties: The Brain Behavior Lab (BBL) at Penn Medicine and the Lifespan Brain Institute (LiBI) at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Penn Medicine are devoted to the study of brain and behavior using innovative clinical, cognitive and neuroimaging techniques and the application of bioinformatics resources. The bioinformatics team provides tools enabling data collection and management including analytics and computational support to investigators at Penn and at CHOP and to collaborators around the world. The Database developer/DBA will be part of this growing bioinformatics team and play a role in the analysis, design, implementation, and support of applications involving study and data management. The position requires expertise in database design and development with core Java knowledge to understand and manage existing applications of our database. Responsibilities include further development - custom enhancements for applications and tools and redesign of database and related applications to better serve the needs of end users. S/He will also be responsible for constructing data solutions for easy, efficient and reliable data accessibility. The position requires a candidate competent in all aspects of application development, work independently, multi-task in a fast-paced environment while producing robust data management solutions and be eager to learn and embrace change.

Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline and at least 2 years experience in building and supporting applications systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Additional years of experience strongly preferred.
* Knowledge of Oracle database and development tools (PL/SQL, SQL Plus, Forms, Reports, JDeveloper, Java, Framework, and JSP)
* Demonstrated experience with Unix/Linux environment including shell scripting
* Experience with version control software (Mercurial, Git).
* Familiarity with Grant Management Systems (OnCore, Velos) preferred
* Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team-based environment and to communicate well with IT and non-IT staff
