ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, MARKS FAMILY WRITING CENTER
Duties: The Associate Director of the Marks Family Writing Center is responsible for hiring, supervising, scheduling, and training tutors in peer tutoring pedagogy and practice; centrally participating in evaluative processes and providing targeted support for students with writing challenges; contributing to policies and initiatives concerning writing; working collaboratively with the Critical Writing Program; managing the Writing Center budget and budget-reporting procedures; conducting and organizing writing-related workshops and other initiatives across campus. The Associate Director will have a 1/2 teaching load, including teaching the advanced writing seminar for tutor development, as well as one first year writing seminar. Additional duties include serving on committees, representing the Writing Center at University events and professional conferences, coordinating with other University offices and departments, and ensuring that writing scheduling software, social media, and the writing center website are current and effective. The Associate Director is also expected to be active in writing center theory, research, and pedagogy and to ensure that the Marks Family Writing Center represents best practices in the field. The Writing Center serves all students on campus through in-person appointments.
Qualifications: PhD in Composition/Rhetoric or another field with demonstrated investment in writing studies theory and pedagogy. Teaching for two or more years at the college level, ideally with a WAC or WID orientation. Administrative and supervisory experience a plus. Scholarship or experience specifically related to Writing Center theory and pedagogy a plus. Excellent interpersonal skills; strong communicator; collaborative orientation but with ability to manage and organize people and projects. Ability to work occasionally in the evenings or weekends as well as to occasionally travel to conferences
