Degree and Area of Specialization: Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or similar field is required. Master's degree is preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: Athletic Training Certification required. Wisconsin Athletic Trainer License required. The best qualified candidates will have at least one (1) year to three (3) years of Graduate Training experience and have completed a Master's program.
Position Summary: Under the general direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Staff Athletic Trainers of various sports, the position provides and assists with the athletic training services in an integrated environment of all intercollegiate sports according to departmental policy, Big Ten and NCAA rules. Key interactions are with Staff Athletic Trainers, the Team Physicians, Coaches and student-athletes in the performance of duties. An ability to work with diverse cultures and personalities is required as well as a desire to interact in a team approach with other staff members and other professionals. Care for various sports and event coverage will be as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
The University of Wisconsin has a concentrated program of Sport Performance testing. Staff may be involved in team and individual testing that may include iDexa, SEBT, Jump Testing, Max VO2, Anaerobic Capacity, and Gait Analysis and baseline concussion evaluation of all athletes based upon NCAA guidelines.
Additional may duties include: Evaluating patients (student-athletes) and screening for referral to orthopedic and primary care sports medicine clinics; Independently provide care for teams as assigned during summer conditioning and pre-season practices; Entering data into the departmental illness/injury tracking system; Preparing practice and competition sites for emergency treatment and safety measures; Attending practice sessions, as necessary; Team travel, as necessary; Assisting in the baseline concussion evaluation of all athletes based upon NCAA guidelines; and performing other duties and assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
