Northern Arizona University's Vice President for Research is currently seeking a full time Postdoctoral Research Scholar. A Post-Doctoral Research Scholar (PS) is needed to advance Northern Arizona University's research capacity in data-intensive paleoclimatology, machine learning and data science in the field of paleoclimate dynamics. This interdisciplinary research will help to develop and apply new techniques to a growing collection of standardized paleoclimate datasets to advance the field of paleoclimate dynamics. The PS will evaluate the implications of these techniques using theory, and data from climate model output and instrumental observations. The PS will help write proposals for external funding to further develop and expand these research directions. The PS will be integrated into the dynamic "Climate Change" research group in the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Sustainability. The PS will facilitate new collaborations among researchers at NAU, especially between the "Climate Change" research group and NAU's growing expertise in informatics and machine learning in the School of Informatics, Computing and Cyber Systems. The PS will receive professional development by being integrated into a dynamic research program, which includes an active analytical laboratory and field research program, and will interact with and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants should have a PhD or other doctoral-level research degree from an accredited research institution conferred no earlier than August 31, 2013. The degree should be in earth, climate, ocean or atmospheric science, machine learning, data science, statistics or related field.
Annual Salary: Commensurate with experience.
