President Search

The Board of Trustees of Columbia Basin College welcomes candidates to the position of President. 

Pursuant to Board of Trustee Policy, the President is accountable to the Board with all authority and accountability of the operating organization. The President, as Chief Executive Officer, is the single official link to the College and the President’s performance is synonymous with the organizational performance as a total. Contributions are stated as performance in two areas, organizational accomplishment of the provisions of Board policies on end states of the College’s mission and organizational operation within the boundaries of prudence and ethics established in Board policies. 

General Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Manage the entire program of activities at the College, including but not limited to, developing the institutional mission and educational program; long-range, strategic, and budget planning; managing and developing the financial, capital, and human resources of the institution; and maintaining strong and positive relations with internal and external constituencies, as well as such duties mutually agreed upon or assigned by the Board;
  • Responsible for all subordinate personnel and for carrying out such duties and responsibilities as may be directed by the Board or as may be set forth in the administrative policies of the institution and/or applicable laws.
  • Perform all duties and carry out all responsibilities that the Board has delegated to the President by resolution or otherwise.
  • Inform the Board of significant issues affecting the College, including but not limited to, concerns related to the performance of personnel, budgetary problems, over- or under-enrollment of students, or the reputation of the institution.
  • Provide special reports or other information requested by the Board.
  • Respect and obey all laws, rules, and regulations of the State of Washington and to act at all times in a thoroughly professional manner so as not to bring discredit upon the President or injure the reputation of the institution.

  • An appreciation of the synergy between a college and its non-profit foundation, including fundraising experience, and supporting foundation efforts and community engagement.
  • An understanding of the proper delegation of authority and a commitment to empowering others and using the talents and skills of the faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders in the decision-making process.
  • A commitment to and always working toward diversity, equity and inclusion and leading a college that does the same for all individuals in the campus community.
  • An innovative and creative leader open to new ideas and risk taking with an understanding of the importance of technology as it relates to institutional effectiveness.
  • Ability to form partnerships with business/industry, educational, and other community agencies including international partnerships.
  • An active listener and outstanding communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to all elements of the College and the community.
  • Commitment to capital improvement projects and other campus infrastructure initiatives for continued growth and needs of instructional programs and the community.
  • An appreciation for continuous improvement, including implementation of quality concepts and practices focused on aligning the college around a set of improvement goals, as well as in the personal and professional development of all.


Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned master’s degree or doctoral degree from an accredited institution;
  • Academic and leadership experience, with a minimum five (5) years’ senior-level progressive leadership in higher education;
  • Competence in communicating education policies, goals, and objectives to faculty, staff, students and the community;
  • Fiscal management experience; and
  • Track record of innovation yielding impactful results.
