Ten-month position (August - June) to provide leadership in coordinating a comprehensive system of programming, relationship-building, research, database development, advising, and instruction that compliments the currciulum of the Roy H. Park School of Communications to help students identify and successfully achieve their post-graduation professional and continuing education goals. Participate as part of a team that provides advising, instruction, peer mentoring, tutoring, and programming to first-year students to help them develop college success strategies. Manage credit-based internship programs and supervise local internships during the academic year. Conduct and disseminate research on job market trends and practices within the communications field, serve as a liaison for alumni and prospective employers, and track employment of alumni. Coordinate workshops, guest lectures, networking, and other individual or group activities that assist students in developing career awareness and skills. Serve as the Park School liaison with the Office of Career Services and other professionals on campus who provide career development services to promote and list internship and job opportunities and college-wide career services.
Position/Job Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement a comprehensive professional development program that offers students various opportunities to develop and achieve career goals; assist students with identifying and engaging in on-and off-campus activities that compliment classroom learning, finding internship and employment opportunities, and developing online profiles, resumes, portfolios, and professional networks.

2. Develop strategies for incorporating professional development into the school's curriculum and co-curricular activities in collaboration with the Dean, Associate Deans, co-curricular advisors, and faculty; including assisting in career-related instruction within courses.

3. Serve as part of a team that provides advising, special programming, information-sharing, tutoring, and peer mentoring to first-year students. Assist in developing student success plans that help students track progress through academic and experiential requirements and opportunities.

4. Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

5. Coordinate peer advisors and student tutors for entry-level courses.

6. Manage the internship program for Park students, including developing and sharing new internship opportunities, enforcing and explaining internship policies, maintaining a current database of internships, assisting students in finding and registering for appropriate internships, tracking and evaluating internships, and supervising local internships during the academic year.

7. Serve as the Park School liaison for prospective employers; collaborate with colleagues in Career Services to ensure that job and internship opportunities are listed in the online database and connect prospective employers with appropriate students, faculty, and alumni.

8. Develop a network of potential mentors in communications careers; assist students in finding and contacting appropriate mentors and arranging opportunities for job shadowing and information interviews; advise students on professional resources such as websites, associations, conferences, and publications that will build career awareness.

9. Coach students in job seeking and interviewing skills and in the development of portfolios, resumes, demo reels, and online profiles that are specifically appropriate for work in the communications industry. Provide students with information that assists them in understanding and being successful in the particular kinds of career paths that are common in communications such as freelancing, entrepreneurship, and independent media.

10. Assist Deans' Office staff in coordinating visits with alumni and other professionals for workshops, guest lectures, recruiting, and other professional development opportunities

11. Maintain effective collaboration with faculty and professional staff to ensure that career development, curriculum, and co-curricular activities are aligned to most effectively support student learning and success during and after college.

12. Maintain relationships with alumni to track career trajectories, develop reports on post-graduation activities, assist alumni in job searches, and to maintain current knowledge of professional trends and employer needs
Position/Job Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications or closely related field and a minimum of three years' professional experience in the communications field; experience in mentoring or advising undergraduate students; ability and initiative to cultivate relationships and build partnerships with external communities to expand experiential learning opportunities; strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment; ability to organize and effectively work with students; ability to work on multiple projects and represent the Roy H. Park School of Communications in a professional and positive manner with constituencies of the School, College, alumni, and communication professionals are required. A master's degree and/or previous experience in higher education is preferred.
