Nature of Work
The Director of Employment Services reports to the Associate Vice President of Human Resources. This position manages the day-to-day operational functions of Employment Services as well as the strategic efforts associated with building a strong and engaged workforce for the University of West Georgia. This position will be a catalyst for providing the UWG campus community with current University of West Georgia, Board of Regents, local, state and federal labor and human resources knowledge. Relationship building with the campus community will be a key success factor with the Director of Employment Services position. The development of strategic internal and external partnerships is expected to cultivate recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts for the university.
The Director of Employment Services will manage a team of human resources professionals that provide the following HR services:
Classification and Compensation
HR Compliance (State, Federal, Board of Regents, and UWG)
Recruitment and On-boarding
Training and Development
Strategic responsibilities include, but are not limited to; assisting the Associate Vice President of Human Resources in developing and implementing plans to improve Human Resources Staff effectiveness with an emphasis on customer service and collaborative HR solutions to include technology; providing budgetary and financial guidance for human resources programs within the scope of position to include HR technology, contracts and consulting agreements; and conducting independent research.
Additional essential functions of the role include providing guidance for corrective action processes and training in accordance with applicable employment law and university policy. Development and delivery of training, in person and online, will be expected for leadership and employee groups within scope of position. Oversight and maintenance to applicable HR software such as the Applicant Tracking System is expected. The position will also maintain and track edits to the employee handbook and departmental website content in collaboration with the various subject matter experts within the university.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Candidate must have at least six(6) years of progressive Human Resources experience with at least three(3) or more years of experience in HR Management roles with direct reports. Ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge in multiple areas of human resources management and excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, analytical and verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees, faculty, staff and students.
Experience in academic environment strongly preferred. Master’s degree in related field is preferred. PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
$74,187 minimum - $107,073 midpoint
